Description

Zudenken Games is a tiny team of indie game developers based in São Paulo, Brazil. They are all experienced veterans of the games industry, led by Julian Witte and Elisa Honório.

They allegedly formed a pact with an Otherworldly patron that enforces them to create fun games while stirring away from greedy corporate practices, and in exchange, they receive boons to bolster their creative output. Although small, with only four people directly involved in their projects, they are a very diverse team, including people of many genders, colors and neurodiversity.

They are currently developing Catlite, a charming and bloody Roguelite game where a Cat Resistance fights to survive in a world dominated by evil Mutant Rats.

History

Their founder, Julian Witte, started Zudenken all the way back in 2013 as a means to develop and publish their first indie game, Rumble Bots. Although a handful of players loved the game, it didn’t perform well enough to keep the team going, so the team disbanded and Julian then focused on providing programming services to other game companies. During this time, he dramatically improved his skills as a developer and had the opportunity to work with a few notorious franchises such as Lego, Disney, Marvel, Thomas & Friends and The Exorcist.

After getting married to Elisa Honório, a talented 2D artist, they saw the potential to combine their skills and get back to making indie games. They first tried a few Game Jams, to ensure working together wouldn’t ruin their personal relationship, and after realizing that they have a lot of synergy in their work, they felt ready to “summon and sign a pact with a mysterious Eldritch entity” as they say, and start working on their first big game together, Catlite.

Since the they started working on Catlite in 2024, Zudenken Games have gained some notoriety, being selected for a mission from SPcine (a local cultural promoter), which brought the team all the way from São Paulo to Gamescom Cologne, boosting the team’s Business Development, and later on for a public grant from São Paulo city, by the SAMPA Games program, providing mentorships and allowing Zudenken to bring more talents into Catlite, including Thayná Stvanini to boost the Art department, and Livia Maki Yoshikawa to create original soundtrack and sound effects for the game.

The development of Catlite is now faster than ever, and has been recently getting exposition in local events, including Gamescom Latam, with extremely positive reception from the public. Julian says that “some people liked the game so much that they would come back later to play it again, even though the game is still in development“.

Zudenken Games is now focused on developing Catlite and expect a release in 2027.
